The most common question we get before a first booking in Silver Spring is which service to choose. The honest answer is that a standard clean and a deep clean aren't two levels of effort on the same job — they cover different lists, and picking the wrong one is why people sometimes feel a cleaning didn't deliver.
A standard clean covers what you see and touch every day. Kitchen counters, sink, stovetop, and appliance exteriors. Bathrooms — toilets, tubs, showers, sinks, and mirrors. Beds made, rooms straightened, surfaces dusted, and every floor vacuumed, swept, and mopped. It's the service that keeps a home level, and for a house that's already in good shape, it's all you need.
A deep clean adds everything a standard visit doesn't have time for, and most of it is the build-up you stop noticing because it arrived gradually. Inside the oven, microwave, and refrigerator. The grease film on the range hood, backsplash, and cabinet fronts above the stove. Soap scum and hard-water staining in the shower, and the grout underneath it. Baseboards, door frames, light switches, window sills and tracks, vents, ceiling fans, and behind furniture and appliances that move.
Here's the simple test. Run a finger along the top edge of a baseboard, then look at the grout line in your shower, then look at the underside of your range hood. If any of those three surprise you, your home is asking for a deep clean rather than a standard one. Time is the other signal: if it's been more than six months since anything more than a surface clean, the build-up is there whether or not it shows from standing height.
This is why we recommend a deep clean for a first visit and standard cleans on a schedule after that. It's not an upsell — it's sequencing. A standard clean over months of accumulated build-up leaves the build-up exactly where it was, and the home never actually gets to a clean baseline. Get it to zero once, then keep it there for less money every visit after.
There's one Maryland-specific factor worth knowing. Water in much of Montgomery and Prince George's County is hard, and hard water leaves mineral film on shower glass, tile, faucets, and fixtures that a general-purpose spray won't touch. It needs the right product and dwell time, which is deep-clean work. If your shower glass looks cloudy no matter how often it's wiped, that's minerals, not dirt.
